Jaguar hunt continues in Rancho San Diego, Ixtapan de la Sal, Mexico
A jaguar was reportedly sighted on July 19 in the Rancho San Diego residential area of Ixtapan de la Sal, Mexico. Local authorities, including the state security secretary (SSEM), municipal civil protection, the environmental agency PROFEPA and staff from the Zacango Ecological Park, have deployed drones, trap cameras, darts and cages in an effort to locate and capture the animal.
The community administration has denied that an active operation is underway and urged residents not to spread false information. It highlighted that circulating photographs of a large security deployment and of the jaguar are fabricated. Residents have been advised to secure doors, windows and patios, avoid leaving food or waste that could attract wildlife, and to keep pets indoors.
Search efforts have been extended but the jaguar remains unfound amid dense vegetation in the subdivision. Authorities continue to monitor reports and have recommended that any new sightings be reported immediately.
