Jaguar Land Rover develops new Range Rover GT and Velar models

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is advancing the development of new models within the Range Rover family, signaling a shift in the brand's design and powertrain philosophy. A prototype of the Range Rover GT has recently been spotted undergoing testing at the Nürburgring circuit. This new model, which will serve as the fifth member of the lineup, moves away from traditional SUV architecture toward a more streamlined, raised grand tourer silhouette designed for long-distance travel.

Simultaneously, the next generation of the Range Rover Velar is nearing completion. Unlike current iterations, the new Velar is expected to transition toward a more aerodynamic, sedan-like crossover shape with a lower profile.

Both models will utilize JLR’s new Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform. While initially designed exclusively for electric vehicles, the platform has been modified to support hybrid powertrains as well. The electric Velar is expected to feature a more aerodynamic rear design, potentially replacing the rear window with a solid panel to improve efficiency and passenger space. JLR intends to position these new models against competitors such as the BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric, and Volvo EX60.
