Jaguar Luna celebrates World Animal Day in Paraguay

Luna, a jaguar residing at the Tekotopa Environmental Center of Itaipu, was filmed enjoying a swim to mark World Animal Day on October 4. The event serves as a call to value, respect, and protect all species.

The jaguar is the largest feline in the Americas and a representative species of South American forests. However, the species faces significant threats, including habitat loss, fragmentation, hunting, and a decline in natural prey. In Paraguay, jaguars are classified as an endangered species, highlighting the necessity of conservation initiatives like those managed by environmental centers.

World Animal Day is observed annually on October 4 in memory of Saint Francis of Assisi. The date was established by the World Animal Protection Organization in 1929 to promote species conservation and animal welfare.
