Jaguar unveils Type 01 electric grand tourer in New York
Jaguar has officially unveiled the Type 01, a production-spec four-door electric grand tourer, marking the beginning of the brand’s complete transition to an all-electric, ultra-luxury lineup. Debuting in New York, the vehicle is designed to compete with high-end manufacturers like Bentley and Rolls-Royce rather than traditional German premium brands.
Built on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), the Type 01 features a tri-motor setup delivering 1,030 hp and 1,365 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.2 seconds. The vehicle utilizes an 850-volt system and a 118 kWh battery, offering an estimated WLTP range of up to 720 km. Fast-charging capabilities allow for 321 km of range to be added in just 13 minutes via a 350 kW DC charger.
The Type 01's design is noted for its radical departure from previous Jaguar aesthetics, characterized by a long hood, low roofline, and a unique lack of a traditional rear windscreen, replaced by a digital camera feed. Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover indicated that the company will focus on low-volume, high-profit models, with a crossover expected to follow the Type 01. Orders are slated to open in early 2027, with deliveries beginning in the second half of that year. Prices are expected to start around £130,000 or approximately €165,000.
