Boston Red Sox acquire outfielder Jahmai Jones from Detroit Tigers

The Boston Red Sox obtained right‑handed outfielder Jahmai Jones from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for a player to be named later. Because Jones is out of minor‑league options, Boston placed him on its 40‑man and active rosters. To make room, the Red Sox optioned infielder Nate Eaton to Triple‑A Worcester.

Jones, 28, posted a .137 average with two home runs and seven RBIs in 57 games for Detroit this season, after a strong 2025‑26 campaign in which he hit .287/.387/.550 with a 159 wRC+ in a platoon role. His career line includes a .214 average with 10 homers and 41 RBIs over 198 major‑league games for several clubs. In Worcester, he was hitting .283 with five homers and 22 RBIs before the move.

The trade gives the Tigers roster flexibility and an undefined future asset, while Boston adds a left‑handed‑hitting depth option to its outfield alongside Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu and Masataka Yoshida.
