Jahmyr Gibbs Signs Record Deal, Becomes NFL’s Highest‑Paid Running Back

The Detroit Lions have completed a three‑year contract extension with running back Jahmyr Gibbs. The deal is valued at $67.5 million, can rise to $75.75 million with incentives, and includes $51.5 million guaranteed, making Gibbs the league’s highest‑paid running back. The agreement surpasses the recent contract of Atlanta Falcons’ Bijan Robinson, who had briefly held the record.

Gibbs, a three‑time Pro Bowl selection, finished the 2025 season with 1,223 rushing yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, 77 receptions for 616 yards and five receiving scores. Over his first three NFL seasons he has amassed 5,029 yards from scrimmage and 49 touchdowns. Lions general manager Brad Holmes said the team “loves Jahmyr” and sees him as the centerpiece of the offense, while head coach Dan Campbell called him the “bell cow” of the attack.

The extension follows a wave of high‑value contracts for top running backs, including Robinson’s three‑year, up‑to‑$75 million deal with the Falcons and Indianapolis Colts’ Jonathan Taylor’s two‑year, $44 million extension. Gibbs’ new contract signals a shift back toward premium pay for elite backs in the NFL.
