Jahnstadion reconstruction in Berlin set to begin in 2027
Demolition of the old Jahnstadion in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg is nearing completion, with construction for the new stadium expected to begin in 2027. While the Senate and organized sports groups support the project as a necessary step toward creating an inclusive sports park, the redevelopment faces ongoing opposition.
During a recent press tour by the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing, protesters from the Bürgerinitiative Jahnsportpark and Naturfreunde Berlin voiced strong opposition. Demonstrators have called for the cancellation of the stadium reconstruction and expressed concerns regarding the reduction of the existing sports field area. Senate Building Director Christian Gaebler defended the project, citing a long-term participation process and the necessity of the new build for the facility's future.
