Jai Opetaia enters fight camp for potential Deontay Wilder bout

Unbeaten Australian cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia has entered a fight camp in preparation for a potential move to the heavyweight division. Opetaia is reportedly in talks to face former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

The potential bout is being considered for a major boxing card in December featuring Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. While not yet a finalized deal, the match is projected to be highly lucrative, with gate takings forecast to exceed $50 million, potentially making it the most profitable event ever held in Europe.

Opetaia, who holds a 31-0 record, is currently involved in a legal dispute with the IBF regarding his title status. Although he has a verbal agreement to fight David Benavidez in May of next year, the Australian fighter is looking to increase his profile by facing Wilder in the interim.
