Jaime Lorente debuts as director with 'El mal hijo
Actor Jaime Lorente has made his directorial debut with the film 'El mal hijo', an adaptation of Salvador S. Molina's novel. The film, which premiered in the New Directors section of the San Sebastián Festival, explores themes of family trauma, addiction, and generational cycles of violence.
Set in a rural Murcian environment, the story follows Rubén, an eleven-year-old boy whose life is upended when his father disappears. The narrative examines the protagonist's growth as he navigates life with his grandmother, Pascuala, while dealing with the absence of a father consumed by drugs and a mother struggling to provide support.
During a recent appearance on the RTVE program 'La Revuelta', Lorente promoted the film and presented a collection of signatures to host David Broncano. Lorente expressed his desire for media independence, stating that the program should not be 'subordinated to the Government' regardless of political changes.
