Jaime Munguia ordered to defend WBA title against Bektemir Melikuziev
WBA super middleweight champion Jaime Munguia is facing a mandate to defend his title against mandatory challenger Bektemir Melikuziev. The WBA has ordered the bout and set a deadline of October 21 for both camps to reach an agreement; failure to do so may result in a purse bid.
Melikuziev, who secured his position after defeating Darius Fulghum, has publicly called on Munguia to either accept the fight or vacate the championship. Melikuziev stated, “Now it’s simple for Munguia. Fight me, or give up the title. I earned my opportunity. I waited long enough. Now it’s time to fight.”
Reports indicate that Munguia’s team is currently considering the option of vacating the belt rather than proceeding with the defense. While Munguia has not officially announced a decision, the deadline remains the critical factor in determining the next steps for the title.
