Jaime Uribe appointed to lead Colombian earthquake reconstruction

Colombian Interior Minister Rodrigo Lara has announced that businessman Jaime Uribe has been appointed as the manager for the country’s reconstruction efforts following a devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake. The seismic event has resulted in more than 310 deaths.

Uribe will oversee the transition from the initial emergency response phase led by the UNGRD to the long-term reconstruction phase. The government is currently coordinating efforts in Cali, the capital of Valle del Cauca, to ensure immediate aid reaches affected areas. Recent government inspections in municipalities such as Ansermanuevo, Roldanillo, Caicedonia, and Sevilla have identified significant housing destruction.
