Jaipur bans victory processions during municipal elections

The Jaipur Police Commissionerate has imposed a complete ban on victory processions from September 13 to September 25 to maintain public order during the local body elections. The prohibitory order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, prohibits candidates, elected members, and supporters from organizing or participating in any victory rallies within the commissionerate area.

Voting for the Jaipur Municipal Corporation elections is currently underway across 150 wards, with approximately 24 lakh voters expected to participate. The election process involves 723 candidates and 2,256 polling stations, 652 of which have been identified as critical or sensitive.

To ensure security, approximately 9,000 additional police personnel are being deployed, with specific assignments for sensitive booths. Vote counting is scheduled for September 14, followed by proposed elections for chairperson and vice-chairperson positions on September 21 and 22.
