Jaipur municipal elections: Political parties see surge in candidate applications

Political activity is intensifying in Jaipur ahead of the municipal elections, with major parties receiving a high volume of applications for councillor positions. In the 150 wards of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has received over 2,500 applications, including approximately 1,000 from women. Of the total wards, 50 are reserved for women.

The Indian National Congress has also seen significant interest, receiving more than 1,350 applications from party workers. To assist in the selection process, the Congress party is reportedly utilizing a professional firm to conduct surveys assessing candidates' local influence and public image. The party aims to finalize its list of candidates by August 26.

Voting for the municipal council is scheduled for September 11, 2026, with the results expected to be announced following the counting of votes on September 14.
