Jaipur police arrest five in haveli treasure theft case

Manak Chowk police in Jaipur have arrested five individuals in connection with the theft of a significant treasure discovered during the demolition of an ancestral haveli in Tripolia Bazaar. The theft occurred approximately 10 months ago at House No. 630, owned by Rahul Sethi.

During the demolition process, workers discovered a cache of wealth hidden within the structure, including silver ingots, gold pots filled with coins, and thousands of silver coins. Instead of reporting the find as required by their contract, a contractor and several laborers allegedly distributed the valuables among themselves.

Investigators were alerted to the crime after noticing sudden and drastic changes in the suspects' lifestyles and spending patterns. While the original structure has been demolished and CCTV footage is no longer available, police utilized technical investigations, call detail records, and informant networks to identify the suspects.

Authorities have recovered 66.4 kg of silver. The arrested individuals include Mahesh Malhotra (also known as Chhotu), Jagdish Rajoria, Omprakash Khinchi (alias Pappu), Rajni Malhotra, and Anuj Arora. Police are continuing to interrogate the group to locate the remaining stolen valuables.
