Jaipur Police Use Water Cannons on Karni Sena Protest
Rajasthan police in Jaipur deployed lathi charges and water cannons to disperse a large rally organized by the Shree Rajput Karni Sena. The protest, led by Mahipal Singh Makrana, demanded the rollback of recent University Grants Commission decisions and raised broader Savarna community grievances. Demonstrators started at Ravan Gate on Kalwar Road, aiming to submit a memorandum to the District Collector, but police erected barricades at Kalwar Puliya, Chomu Puliya and Khasakothi Puliya.
Protesters forced through the barriers, some attempting to block the water‑cannon vehicle, while an ambulance was briefly trapped before the crowd cleared a path. The rally attracted participants from 24 states, with a torch‑light procession preceding the main march. Makrana, who fell ill and briefly lost consciousness, continued the yatra in a wheelchair. Police reinforced the route with additional forces, including the Special Task Force, to maintain order.
