Jair Bolsonaro's electronic monitoring bracelet replaced in Brasília
On September 29, the electronic monitoring ankle bracelet used by former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was replaced at his residence in Brasília. The procedure was carried out by an officer from the Integrated Electronic Monitoring Center (CIME) between 4:20 PM and 4:40 PM.
Bolsonaro is currently serving house arrest following a conviction by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for his involvement in an attempted coup d'état. He was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison. The monitoring device is a judicial requirement to ensure he adheres to the conditions of his house arrest, which was authorized by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The replacement follows previous issues with his monitoring; in November 2025, the system detected a violation when Bolsonaro allegedly attempted to open the device using a soldering iron. This incident led to his transition from precautionary measures to preventive detention. The monitoring system is part of the weekly reports submitted by the Military Police Custody Nucleus to the STF to track his compliance with judicial restrictions.
