Jair Renan Bolsonaro faces rejection of absence excuse in Santa Catarina

Jair Renan Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, faced criticism and a rejected request during a session of the Balneário Camboriú City Council in Santa Catarina. The councilman sought to have his absences excused to avoid salary deductions, citing a regulation that allows for justified absences approved by an absolute majority.

Councilman Marcelo Achutti (MDB) opposed the request, arguing that there was no justification for the absences, especially given that Renan Bolsonaro had received R$ 3 million from the electoral fund. Achutti criticized the request, suggesting that if the councilman is campaigning, he should follow the same procedures as other candidates who step down to allow substitutes to take their seats.

The request was denied with ten votes against it. In response, Jair Renan Bolsonaro claimed his absence was due to visiting his father, whom he referred to as a ‘political prisoner’. The session also involved heated verbal exchanges and allegations of insults between the councilmen.
