Jairo Asencio recovers at home after suffering a stroke

Jairo Asencio, the all-time saves leader in the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), is in stable condition at his home in Palenque following an ischemic stroke suffered on Friday, October 23.

Asencio, 43, was initially treated at the Juan Pablo Pina Hospital in San Cristóbal before being discharged on Sunday, October 25. While the medical episode partially affected the mobility of his left side, reports indicate he is showing favorable progress and remains under medical supervision.

The National Federation of Professional Ballplayers (Fenapepro) and the Tigres del Licey have provided support during his recovery. Fenapepro president Erick Almonte noted that the National Health Insurance (Senasa) also assisted in coordinating his care.

Asencio is a prominent figure in Dominican baseball, holding the record for most career saves in LIDOM with 169. He played 13 seasons with the Tigres del Licey and was a key component of four championship titles.
