Jaish-e-Mohammed reportedly uses AI deepfakes to boost recruitment

The Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) is reportedly using Artificial Intelligence to generate deepfake audio and video of its leader, Masood Azhar. Intelligence assessments suggest this move is an attempt to revive declining recruitment efforts following heavy losses sustained during Operation Sindoor.

Following the Indian military operation, which targeted the JeM headquarters in Bahawalpur and resulted in the deaths of several cadres and family members of Azhar, the group's leadership has largely avoided public appearances. Officials noted that recruitment had hit a roadblock as potential members questioned Azhar's status. The use of AI is intended to change the narrative and boost morale by providing new content to replace old, recycled media.
