Jaismine Lamboria, India's First Female Army Boxer, Targets Commonwealth Gold in Glasgow

Jaismine Lamboria, a 24‑year‑old boxer, is the Indian Army’s first female boxer and the reigning 57 kg world champion. After earning a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she entered the Glasgow Commonwealth Games with the explicit goal of turning that bronze into gold.

Lamboria says she looks to former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for mental guidance, describing him as “Captain Cool.” She trains at the Army Sports Institute in Pune under the Mission Olympics Wing of the Army’s Corps of Military Police, combining military discipline with elite boxing preparation.

She made her Olympic debut at Paris 2024, losing in the first round to Tokyo silver‑medallist Nesthy Petecio. Since then she has captured World Cup golds in Astana and Delhi and won the world title in Liverpool by defeating Polish boxer Julia Atena Szeremeta. “I aim to change the colour of that medal to gold,” Lamboria affirmed ahead of her Glasgow campaign.
