Jajce: The historical liberation of the city on September 25, 1942
On September 25, 1942, Yugoslav Partisan units liberated the city of Jajce during World War II. The operation, which began on September 24, involved several brigades, including the First and Second Krajina Brigades, the Second Proletarian Brigade, and the Fourth Montenegrin Brigade.
Following intense fighting to secure strategic positions such as Ćusina, Partisan forces entered the city at dawn on September 25, raising their flag over the Jajce fortress. The liberation briefly turned the city into a significant political and cultural center for the National Liberation Movement, highlighted by the arrival of Josip Broz Tito on September 28. However, the control was short-lived, as German forces and their allies launched a new offensive in early October, forcing Partisan units to retreat.
