Jakarta 2026 Cost of Living Estimates and City Wage Premium
In 2026 Jakarta’s cost of living is projected to require between Rp5 million and Rp10 million per month for a single person, and between Rp12 million and Rp25 million for a small family, depending on housing, food, transport and other expenses. The province’s minimum wage is set at Rp5,729,876, a 6.17 % rise from 2025, serving as a benchmark for workers’ purchasing power.
A separate study on wage differentials finds that location accounts for 45‑73 % of inter‑city pay gaps within Indonesia, and up to 93 % of international wage gaps once cost of living and inflation are adjusted. Cities that generate strong agglomeration effects—through high productivity, clustered firms, and easy access to labor and suppliers—grant a significant “location premium” to workers, often outweighing individual skill factors.
