Jakarta authorities to report vandalism of CCTV and public facilities in Pejompongan

Public facilities, including CCTV cameras and traffic signs, were vandalized in the Pejompongan area of Central Jakarta on Thursday night, August 27, 2026. The destruction occurred amidst clashes between groups of people and police following demonstrations near the DPR Building.

Witnesses reported that individuals, suspected to be students, used bamboo poles to knock down CCTV cameras and climbed street lighting poles to damage signage. The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Department of Communication, Informatics, and Statistics (Diskominfotik), expressed deep regret over the incident. Marulina Dewi, Head of Diskominfotik, emphasized that while the government respects the right to express opinions, such actions must be conducted in an orderly and responsible manner.

Authorities stated that the CCTV infrastructure is vital for crime prevention, public service monitoring, and traffic management. The Jakarta Provincial Government has announced intentions to report the vandalism to law enforcement for further legal action.
