Jakarta DPRD calls for permanent closure of illegal waste sites

August Hamonangan, a member of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Commission C, has urged the Jakarta Provincial Government to ensure the permanent closure of illegal waste disposal sites (TPS). He emphasized that these sites must be shut down indefinitely to prevent ongoing social and environmental issues.

Hamonangan also expressed strong condemnation regarding an incident where journalists covering an illegal waste site in Cilincing, North Jakarta, were obstructed. He described the act as a violation of press freedom and called for serious government attention to prevent such incidents from setting a precedent of legal immunity for those involved.

Separately, DPRD member Josephine Simanjuntak addressed the optimization of regional assets. She called for a clear database to map productive, underutilized, and idle assets as the provincial government prepares to offer 40 regional properties to investors through the Jakarta Asset Forum & Expo (JAFEX) 2026.
