Jakarta evaluates odd-even traffic policy amid MRT development

The Jakarta Provincial Government is evaluating its odd-even traffic restriction policy, which has been in place for approximately ten years. The review aims to adjust the number of restricted road segments to reflect current traffic patterns, particularly those influenced by the development of the MRT Jakarta.

Governor Pramono Anung stated that the government, in coordination with the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), is studying how MRT construction has altered vehicle movement on key routes, such as Jalan Gajah Mada and Jalan Hayam Wuruk.

Beyond traffic flow, officials are considering the policy's impact on local economic activities, including MSMEs and regional revenue. Data from the Jakarta Transportation Agency indicates that the odd-even system has historically improved traffic performance by an average of 29.53 percent, reducing the Volume Capacity Ratio (VCR) from 1.00 to 0.78. While the evaluation is ongoing, no immediate changes to the current routes or regulations have been implemented.
