Jakarta Governor meets New York Mayor at U20 Summit
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung met with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during the Urban 20 (U20) Mayors Summit 2026 in New York. The bilateral meeting focused on urban challenges, including public transportation, flood management, air pollution, and infrastructure financing.
Governor Anung presented Jakarta’s economic stability, noting a 5.52 percent growth in the second quarter of 2026 and an inflation rate of 2.5 percent. He pitched 37 urban development projects with a potential investment value of US$7 billion to global investors. To address infrastructure needs, Jakarta plans to issue municipal bonds, a move supported by Mayor Mamdani, who offered to send a New York financial team to share expertise on bond issuance.
Discussions also covered Jakarta’s strategies for managing traffic through the Transjabodetabek network and flood mitigation efforts, such as the Giant Sea Wall and reducing groundwater use to combat land subsidence. The summit aims to produce policy recommendations for sustainable urban development, covering themes like climate action and affordable housing.
