Jakarta advances LRT construction, municipal bonds, and waste management

Jakarta is advancing several major urban development and infrastructure initiatives. The construction of the LRT Jakarta Phase 1B (Velodrome-Manggarai route) has reached 97.99 percent completion, with Waskita Karya aiming for an August inauguration to bolster the capital's public transport network.

In terms of fiscal strategy, Governor Pramono Anung is exploring alternative financing methods, including the issuance of municipal bonds. Jakarta plans to issue these bonds in 2027, a process that the provincial government intends to share with Bali to assist their own development funding efforts.

The administration is also overhauling waste management, shifting from a conventional ‘collect and dump’ model to an integrated ‘sort, collect, and process’ system. The goal is to achieve zero dumping at the Bantargebang site by 2028. Additionally, Perumda Dharma Jaya is working to ensure food security and protein availability through mobile affordable food programs and integrated farming initiatives.
