Jakarta hosts CiLung Festival featuring 43 recycled boats

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government held the 2026 CiLung (Cinta Lingkungan) Boat Festival at Sunter South Lake in North Jakarta on Sunday, October 18. The event featured 43 creative boats constructed from recycled materials, including 18,400 water jugs and 47,000 plastic bottles.

Jakarta Regional Secretary Uus Kuswanto stated that the festival serves as an educational tool to encourage residents to practice waste sorting at home. The initiative aligns with Governor's Instruction Number 5 of 2026, which promotes a waste management shift from a ‘collect, transport, and discard’ model to a ‘sort, transport, and process’ approach. The goal is to reduce waste and prevent pollution in rivers and lakes by fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
