Jakarta officials initiate river dredging and utility cable reorganization
Jakarta officials are undertaking several infrastructure and environmental management projects to improve urban living conditions. The Jakarta Public Works Department (Dinas Bina Marga) is reorganizing utility cables across 1,161 meters of area to support the city's transformation into a global city.
Simultaneously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is overseeing the dredging of the Anak Kali Krukut river in the Tanah Abang area. This project covers a 2.3-kilometer stretch across the Kebon Melati, Kebon Kacang, and Kampung Bali sub-districts. The dredging is the first of its kind in nearly 60 years, aimed at mitigating flooding in the Kebon Melati region. The work is being executed in five segments, with significant progress already made in several sections despite challenges posed by dense residential settlements that require manual material transport in some areas.
