Jakarta Pedestrian Bridge Severely Damaged After Crane Truck Collision

Around 01:00 WIB on 14 July 2026, a crane‑carrying truck struck the Jembatan Penyeberangan Orang (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean in South Jakarta. The impact ripped the bridge’s lower structure, causing severe damage to columns, girders and the stairway, and raised fears of collapse. No injuries were reported.

Police, the Jakarta Traffic Police, the Dinas Bina Marga and the BPBD confirmed the driver failed to account for the height of the load, citing distraction by a mobile phone or navigation app. The incident blocked the road, creating long‑lasting congestion and delaying three Transjakarta routes (6U, 6W, 7Q). Authorities closed the bridge, began traffic rerouting, and announced demolition of the damaged structure, with removal work starting the same day.

The truck remained on site pending crane assistance, and investigations continue into the driver’s negligence and the lack of height‑clearance signage.
