Jakarta police clarify domestic worker confinement report as misunderstanding
Police in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, have clarified that reports of two domestic workers being held captive in a residence on Jalan Sukarela were the result of a misunderstanding. The incident was initially reported via the JAKI application and relayed through emergency services.
Following an investigation by the Penjaringan Metro Police, it was determined that the two workers, aged 18 and 19, were not being held against their will. The homeowner, a 71-year-old individual, had left the house for approximately two hours to attend to health therapy. Because the house was locked from the outside, the workers were unable to exit, leading to the perception of confinement.
Authorities facilitated a discussion between the employer and the workers. It was agreed that the domestic workers would cease their employment and return to their hometowns. The matter has been resolved peacefully.
