Jakarta Police release 19 demonstrators detained during protests

Nineteen individuals, including 18 adults and one child, were released from the Polda Metro Jaya police headquarters on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The group had been detained by authorities during demonstrations held around the Bundaran HI area in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, October 28.

The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) and legal representatives from the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBHJ) accompanied the detainees during their release. Advocacy groups have called for an evaluation of police security measures, raising allegations of unauthorized searches conducted without warrants and potential violence against protesters during the security operations.
