Jakarta Police name driver a suspect in BYD crash that injured motorcycle taxi driver
Police have named a 46-year-old driver, identified by the initial S, as a suspect following a multi-vehicle accident in the Blok M area of South Jakarta. The incident, which occurred on October 23, involved a rental BYD electric vehicle that struck four cars and a motorcycle before running over a 56-year-old Grab motorcycle taxi driver, Hasan Syukur.
Investigators believe the driver lost control after falling asleep due to exhaustion and subsequently panicked, accidentally pressing the accelerator instead of the brake. Urine tests conducted by authorities returned negative for alcohol and narcotics. The victim, Hasan Syukur, sustained serious injuries including a broken leg and a punctured lung, and is currently undergoing treatment at Fatmawati Hospital.
National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto has pledged that the police will guarantee all medical expenses for the victim until he achieves full recovery. High-ranking officials from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Police Medical and Health Center have visited the victim to coordinate care, with recommendations to potentially transfer him to the Bhayangkara Said Sukanto Hospital for optimal treatment.
