Jakarta police prepare traffic diversions for planned demonstrations

Jakarta authorities have prepared traffic management schemes and alternative routes for Tuesday, October 20, 2026, to accommodate planned demonstrations. The protests, involving students and various community groups, mark the second anniversary of the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Traffic congestion is expected in several key areas, including the National Monument (Monas), Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan MH Thamrin, and the vicinity of the DPR/MPR RI building. Polda Metro Jaya and the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) will implement situational traffic engineering based on real-time field conditions.

Specific areas to avoid include Jalan Merdeka Selatan, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Gatot Subroto, and the Semanggi intersection. For those heading toward the DPR/MPR RI area from Semanggi, alternative routes through Bendungan Hilir or Jalan Gerbang Pemuda have been suggested to mitigate delays.
