Jakarta Police to Question Documentary Director Dandhy Laksono

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have scheduled a clarification examination for documentary filmmaker Dandhy Laksono on October 27, 2026. The investigation follows a report filed by Yasinta Moiwend, known as Mama Sinta, regarding the documentary ‘Pesta Babi: Kolonialisme di Zaman Kita’. The complainant alleges violations of the Personal Data Protection Law, claiming the film was screened in Jayapura without her permission.

Dandhy’s legal team, the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), has expressed objections to the summons. The legal team argues that the term ‘clarification invitation’ lacks a formal legal basis under the Indonesian Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) and National Police Regulations. They further contend that because the case is currently in the investigation phase and not yet at the prosecution stage, Dandhy’s legal status remains unclear, making the summons procedurally invalid.

In addition to Laksono, the police have summoned Johnny Teddy Wakum, Chairman of the Merauke Legal Aid Institute (LBH Merauke), for October 28. Police spokesperson Kombes Budi Hermanto stated that the process follows the principle of presumption of innocence and will proceed to a formal investigation only if sufficient evidence is found during the current inquiry.
