Polda Metro Jaya identifies suspects in fatal Pejompongan assault and riot funding

Polda Metro Jaya has identified three suspects, FP (23), DS (33), and DDS (29), in the fatal assault of Bambang Setiawan during the August 27, 2026, riots in Pejompongan, Jakarta. The suspects, described as casual laborers, were arrested in Babakan Madang, Bogor Regency, on September 11. Investigators believe the motive was frustration over their livelihoods being disrupted by the unrest.

In a separate investigation into the riots, police uncovered three distinct funding clusters used to mobilize participants. One network involved field coordinators paying individuals Rp40,000, while another, allegedly linked to a corporate entity and a university student, offered Rp70,000 per person.

Additionally, authorities have charged three individuals—B, N, and P—with the exploitation of children. The suspects allegedly recruited 83 minors to participate in the riots using promises of payments ranging from Rp40,000 to Rp55,000. The group reportedly earned a total profit of approximately Rp3.4 million. In response, Polda Metro Jaya is implementing prevention strategies involving parents and educators to protect children from future involvement in civil unrest.
