Jakarta Pusat District Court rejects defense exception in extortion trial
The Jakarta Pusat District Court has rejected the interlocutory objection, or exception, filed by the defense in an alleged extortion and threat case involving lawyer Bangun Paulus Tudungta. The defendant is accused of extorting an entrepreneur named Vincent.
Presiding Judge Ahmad Rasyid Purba ruled that the defense's arguments touched upon the substance of the case, which is inappropriate for an exception under Article 206. Consequently, the court ordered the trial to proceed to the evidentiary stage.
Prosecutor Andri Saputra stated that the prosecution respects the court's decision and will prepare for the next hearing. The court has scheduled the next session for September 9, 2026, where the prosecution intends to call the victim, Vincent, as a witness.
