Jakarta ranks second worst globally for air pollution

Jakarta was reported as having the second‑worst air quality in the world, trailing only Singapore in ASEAN rankings. Governor Pramono Anung highlighted that transport accounts for about 50 % of the city’s emissions and urged residents to use the free public‑transport scheme available to 15 population groups.

The provincial government plans to operate 10,000 electric Trans‑Jakarta buses by 2030 and is accelerating construction of intermediate waste‑treatment facilities in Sunter, Rorotan, Bantargebang and West Jakarta, aiming to cut emissions from the waste sector.

These measures are part of a broader strategy to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse‑gas emissions in the capital.
