Jakarta reduces carbon emissions by 60 tons in one‑hour power‑saving drive

On 14 June 2026 the DKI Jakarta provincial government switched off lighting for one hour, cutting electricity use by 75.18 MWh, saving roughly IDR 108.7 million and lowering carbon emissions by 60.14 tonnes of CO₂e, according to Dudi Gardesi of the Environment Agency. The initiative, part of the province’s climate‑change mitigation plan, demonstrates how coordinated energy‑saving actions can produce measurable environmental benefits.

Separately, the Environmental Service Division of the Kepulauan Seribu district carried out free emission tests on 54 vehicles – 33 cars and 21 motorcycles – belonging to government staff and private drivers. The tests, aimed at preventing air‑pollution from motor‑vehicle exhaust, are part of a broader program that includes eco‑enzyme spraying and green waste management, and will be rotated to other inhabited islands in the archipelago.
