Jakarta Running Festival 2026 sees rule violations and traffic changes
The Jakarta Running Festival (JRF) 2026, an international event featuring approximately 37,000 participants from 49 countries, drew significant attention due to both its scale and several incidents. During the half marathon category, some runners reportedly bypassed security barriers and cut-off points (COP) after failing to meet the required time limits. This behavior went viral on social media, prompting Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to emphasize that strict time limits are mandatory international standards for Gold Label races and are not merely local committee rules. The Governor clarified that while the incidents were noted, there would be no blacklisting of participants.
To facilitate the event, Transjakarta provided free services for participants, and the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) implemented various traffic diversions and re-routing across major thoroughfares, including Jalan Sudirman and Jalan MH Thamrin. Some residents expressed confusion as the usual Car Free Day (CFD) was suspended to accommodate the race.
Despite challenges such as air quality concerns, which the Governor noted were mitigated by weather modification efforts, the festival maintained high energy. The event featured various categories, including 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon, and was supported by cultural elements like Betawi Ondel-ondel puppets and live gamelan ensembles.
