Bapenda Jakarta building fire damages 16th floor and disrupts traffic systems

A major fire broke out at the Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) building on Abdul Muis Road on the night of August 7, 2026. The blaze, which started around 21:30, affected floors 11 through 16 of the 16-story structure. Firefighting efforts involved approximately 180 personnel and 37 fire engines to contain the flames and conduct cooling operations.

One worker was rescued from the 15th floor and treated at RSUD Tarakan for breathing difficulties. While the building suffered significant damage, including to the Traffic Management Control system on the 16th floor—requiring manual traffic light operation—the Jakarta provincial government has confirmed that all tax and regional asset data remains secure due to full digitization and off-site backups.

In response to the incident, Governor Pramono Anung instructed approximately 1,000 civil servants (ASN) who work in the affected building to implement work-from-home (WFH) or work-from-anywhere (WFA) schemes temporarily. The building houses several agencies, including Bapenda, BPAD, BPSDM, and the Department of Transportation. Police have deployed personnel to secure the area as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
