Jakarta to install waste filters in 11 rivers
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has announced plans to expand the city's waste management capabilities by installing integrated waste filters (Saringan Sampah Terpadu) at 11 different river locations. This initiative aims to intercept waste before it reaches downstream areas, helping to reduce the volume of trash sent to the Bantargebang final processing facility.
The project will utilize a model similar to the existing facility at TB Simatupang in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. At these sites, collected waste will be sorted into organic and inorganic types. Organic waste is intended to be processed into useful products such as compost and maggots, while remaining residues will be managed separately.
In addition to waste reduction, the filters are expected to assist in flood control efforts by preventing debris accumulation in the river networks. The targeted rivers for this expansion include Kali Sunter, Cipinang, Jatikramat, Baru Timur, Baru Barat, Angke, Grogol, Krukut, Buaran, Kalimalang, and Cakung.
