Jakarta to adjust public transport fares in January 2027
The Jakarta Provincial Government will implement fare adjustments for several public transportation services, including Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, and LRT Jakarta, effective January 1, 2027. Governor Pramono Anung stated that these changes are necessary because current rates have remained unchanged for approximately 20 years and are currently among the lowest in the metropolitan area compared to surrounding regions.
While specific new rates have not yet been announced, the policy aims to optimize the use of subsidies by directing them more effectively toward those in need. To balance the fare increase, the government plans to expand the number of groups eligible for free public transportation from 15 to 21 categories. New groups receiving free access will include disability caregivers, job seekers, routine referral patients, and low-income students who are not already covered by existing social assistance programs.
In related operational updates, Transjakarta has also adjusted several feeder routes serving low-cost apartment areas (Rusun) to optimize fleet usage and ensure continued connectivity for residents.
