Jakarta's Air Quality Unhealthy as PM2.5 Levels Exceed WHO Limits

On Sunday morning, 7 June 2026, IQAir recorded Jakarta's air‑quality index at 164 with a PM2.5 concentration of 74.4 µg/m³, 14.9 µg/m³ above the WHO annual guideline. A later update the same day showed the index at 156 and PM2.5 at 63 µg/m³. The city ranked third‑worst in Indonesia after Tangerang Selatan and Serpong.

Health authorities advised residents to wear masks when outdoors, avoid exercise, keep windows closed and use air‑cleaning devices. Jakarta’s provincial government stressed that pollution control requires coordinated action across agencies and neighbouring regions, citing Governor Decree No. 576/2023 which sets a 2023‑2030 strategy focused on stronger governance, reductions in mobile‑source emissions and cuts to stationary‑source emissions.
