Jakarta’s public cemeteries near capacity, Al Azhar Memorial Garden urges early burial planning

According to the DKI Jakarta government, 69 of the 80 public burial parks (TPU) are already full, leaving only a handful of plots available and forcing the use of overlapping graves. The shortage signals an urgent need for families to consider burial arrangements well before a crisis arises.

Al Azhar Memorial Garden (AMG), the country’s first modern Muslim cemetery, marked its 15th anniversary in 2026. Director of Business Development Arumi warned, “Society needs to plan burial needs early as part of life planning, not only when conditions become urgent.” AMG offers professionally managed, Sharia‑compliant grounds, 24‑hour services and aims to provide certainty and peace of mind for Muslim families across Indonesia.

Head of Business Development & Marketing Reza Hidayatullah added, “We do not want to be just a burial site; we want families to feel calm knowing loved ones are interred correctly according to Islamic teachings, with continuous care thereafter.” The organization positions itself as a solution to Jakarta’s mounting burial‑land pressure.
