Indonesia Human Rights Minister pushes for regulatory reforms and public participation
Indonesia's Minister of Human Rights, Natalius Pigai, is urging government agencies to actively incorporate public feedback into the formulation of national human rights policies. Speaking at the 2026 Human Rights Policy Forum, Pigai emphasized that meaningful participation requires the government to listen to and respond to civil society recommendations rather than just providing a platform for speech.
To support President Prabowo Subianto’s 'Asta Cita' vision, Pigai is also calling on the State Secretariat to expedite four strategic regulatory drafts that have been stalled for eight months. These include the revision of the Human Rights Law, the Sixth National Action Plan on Human Rights (RAN HAM), a Presidential Regulation on Business and Human Rights, and a Presidential Instruction on the Recovery of Human Rights Violations. The Minister noted that the lack of these legal frameworks has hindered budget implementation for human rights programs and regional humanitarian crisis responses.
