Jake Marshall Wins Men's Title at U.S. Open of Surfing
Encinitas surfer Jake Marshall, 27, claimed the men’s U.S. Open of Surfing championship at Huntington Beach Pier, defeating Huntington Beach’s Kanoa Igarashi 14.77‑14.07. The victory earned him a $20,000 prize, 10,000 Challenger Series points and moved him to the top of the Challenger Series rankings, a crucial boost as he seeks to finish inside the top 22 to retain his Championship Tour spot for next season.
In the women’s division, 19‑year‑old Sierra Kerr captured the title, beating Australia’s Isla Huppatz 12.50‑11.90 and also taking home $20,000. Kerr’s win marks a comeback after battling Lyme disease and continues a family legacy, as her father former tour rider Josh Kerr also competes on the professional circuit.
