JAKIM investigates allegations linking Deputy Minister to New Age Movement

The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has conducted a thorough investigation into allegations linking Deputy Minister Marhamah Rosli to the New Age Movement (NAM). Following a meeting involving the Deputy Minister, the Mufti of the Federal Territory, and JAKIM’s Creed Expert Panel, the department provided guidance and advice regarding program content and approaches that could impact Islamic creed.

JAKIM Director General Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee stated that the agency remains firm in rejecting any teachings or practices that contradict Islamic principles. He emphasized that religious content must be based on scholarly discipline and recognized authority.

Separately, Datuk Dr Khairuddin Aman Razali, Deputy Chairman of the UMNO Malaysia Ulama Council, has called for an independent investigation into the allegations. He argued that an external body should handle the probe to avoid public doubt regarding transparency, noting that the issue affects the credibility of the Unity Government’s management of Islamic affairs.
