JAKIM investigates suspicious chicken slaughter video in Kuala Lumpur
The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) is conducting a comprehensive investigation into allegations of questionable chicken slaughtering methods at a premise near Pasar Pudu, Kuala Lumpur. The investigation follows viral social media videos appearing to show suspicious processing activities.
JAKIM Director-General Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee confirmed that the probe involves local authorities and focuses on a company that does not hold a Malaysia Halal Certification (SPHM). Putrajaya MP Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin has called for an integrated investigation involving the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Ministry of Health, and the Immigration Department to examine hygiene, halal compliance, and worker permit status.
In response to the allegations, Bhuiyen Sdn Bhd has filed a police report at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters, denying involvement in the slaughtering process. Company representative Zalinda Yacob clarified that the firm only supplies live chickens to the premises in question and maintains all necessary licenses, including halal certification and environmental approvals. She characterized the accusations as defamatory and has welcomed inspections by immigration authorities to verify the legal status of their employees.
