Jakob Ingebrigtsen confirmed for European Championships, out of 1500m

Norwegian middle‑ and long‑distance star Jakob Ingebrigtsen (25) has confirmed his participation in the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, scheduled for 10‑16 August. The Norwegian Athletics Federation’s press contact indicated that Ingebrigtsen will compete in the 5,000‑metre race, where he is the defending champion, although the exact events were not initially disclosed.

The official start list later showed Ingebrigtsen omitted from the 1,500‑metre event, where he also holds the title. He remains listed as the reigning champion for the 5,000 metres. The athlete missed last year’s outdoor season and underwent Achilles surgery in the United States earlier this year, but returned for the Tokyo World Championships and now aims to defend his European titles.
